There’s something uniquely memorable about a spring wedding when the weather keeps you on your toes, and this beautiful celebration at Winkworth Farm was exactly that. The day brought a mix of sunshine, sudden rain showers, and strong winds that added a real sense of atmosphere, though it certainly kept everyone wrapped up against the chill.
Despite the unpredictable conditions, the energy throughout the day was full of warmth and joy. Guests embraced every moment, making the most of the sunshine when it appeared and laughing through the blustery, rain-swept intervals. It was one of those characterful March days where the elements become part of the story - creating a vibrant, real, and unforgettable backdrop for a relaxed and joy-filled celebration.
Bridal preparations at Winkworth Grove
The morning began at Winkworth Grove, where Mia got ready surrounded by her closest friends and family. There was such a relaxed, excited energy in the room, the kind that builds quietly before everything really begins.
These moments are always some of my favourites to capture. The anticipation, the laughter, and those final touches before heading to the ceremony all tell such an important part of the story.

The Ceremony in the Barn
As the day unfolded, the ceremony was filled with emotion, one of those moments where everything else fades away and all that matters is the two people at the centre of it. The ceremony took place in the barn at Winkworth Farm — a space that feels both intimate and full of character. As guests gathered inside, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, a perfect contrast to the ever-changing weather outside.
Mia and James’ ceremony was heartfelt and relaxed, filled with genuine smiles and emotional moments as they exchanged their vows surrounded by the people who mean the most to them.
Stepping back outside, guests were met with a mix of sunshine and blustery winds, with the occasional drizzle making an appearance. Rather than dampening spirits, it brought everyone closer together, coats were wrapped tighter, and there was a shared sense of embracing whatever the day had in store.
Wind, Sunshine and Celebrations Outside
Confetti was a highlight, with petals caught in the wind creating the most beautifully chaotic and joyful moment. It’s always one of my favourite parts of the day, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. Full of laughter, movement, and genuine celebration. We were met with a mix of sunshine, wind, and the occasional light rain shower - classic British spring weather. The confetti was thrown with big smiles (and windswept hair!), followed by group photos and relaxed moments with guests. The movement in the air and shifting light made everything feel dynamic and real - the kind of conditions that create beautifully natural photographs.
We then took some time for couple portraits, making the most of the surroundings at Winkworth Farm. Even with the changing weather, there were so many lovely pockets of light and quiet moments for Mia and James to just be together.
The Wedding Breakfast in the Barn and Golden Hour Portraits
One of the most unique parts of the day was the timing. After dessert and just before speeches, we stepped out for golden hour. And it did not disappoint. As the afternoon rolled on, something magical happened. The earlier clouds broke just enough to give us that soft, glowing light that makes everything feel a little bit magical. It was the perfect chance for Mia and James to take a breather and soak it all in, while capturing some of the most romantic portraits of the day.
Heading into the speeches, guests gathered with that familiar buzz of anticipation. The room was filled with laughter, happy tears, and heartfelt words. Moments that brought everyone even closer together and carried the energy effortlessly into the evening celebrations.
Speeches, Cake & Sparklers
Back inside, the speeches followed the wedding breakfast, full of laughter, stories, and a few emotional moments that had everyone completely engaged.
Straight after, the evening celebrations kicked off with the cutting of the cake, seamlessly leading into a sparkler moment outside. Sparklers always bring such a fun, celebratory energy, and this was no exception with guests gathered together, lighting up the evening in the most beautiful way.
First Dance & Nighttime Moments
With the atmosphere already buzzing, Mia and James headed straight into their first dance. It was such a natural transition into the evening party, and it didn’t take long for the dance floor to fill.
Before I left, we stepped outside one last time for a few nighttime photos. The contrast from the bright, windy daytime to the calm, darker evening created such a lovely ending to the story of their day.
What stood out most about this wedding wasn’t just the stunning setting or the dramatic weather, but the way it was embraced. No matter what the skies had in store, the focus never shifted from what truly mattered; celebrating love, being surrounded by favourite people, and enjoying every second.
A Wedding Full of Real Moments
Mia and James’ wedding at Winkworth Farm was the perfect reminder that you don’t need perfect weather for a perfect day and this venue was the perfect backdrop for a day. Sometimes, it’s the wild, windswept, sun-and-rain-filled days with a surprise golden hour thrown in that creates the most meaningful and memorable stories. The mix of sunshine, wind, and rain only added to the atmosphere, creating a day that felt completely real, full of energy, and full of love.
